The second match of the day, between Israel and Luxembourg, was in fact a direct clash for the second place. The squad from the Mediterranean shut out the hosts by 3:0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-14), but it did not prove enough to earn a ticket to Round 2, since the runners-up of the other two pools have better records.

Israel vs. Luxembourg 3:0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-14)

Before the start of this game the Luxembourg Federation awarded Frantisek Vosahlo for recording his 50th cap with the national team. With the exception of some initial moments of each of the three sets, Israel was in control of the scoreboard and secured a straight-set victory. The home guys were blocking well in the first set, but this was not enough to compensate for Israel’s better performance in the other elements, which led to a 25-21 win. After 0-1 in the second set, Israel scored 5 points in a row and never looked back to close it off at 25-20. Similarly, in set 3, Israel scored 5 consecutive points after 0-2 to hammer out the most convincing set score of the game – 25-14, and hurry on to check the news from the other pools, which was not favorable.
